Developmental Kindergarten

Young Fives Program

Capac Community Schools is proud to announce that a Developmental Kindergarten classroom has been added to the early childhood program at Capac Elementary School. The purpose of this classroom is to provide an education that meets the varying needs of young students, and to give them an extra year of social, emotional, and academic development prior to kindergarten. Students will benefit from classroom instruction with frequent movement, learning through play, and focus on social development. The curriculum is based on the Michigan kindergarten standards, but will be tailored for the young learners and implemented at a slower pace to ensure lessons are developmentally appropriate. The developmental kindergarten  is a full-day program, where students participate in breakfast and lunch services, recess, special enrichment classes such as physical education, STEAM, and music. In order to be eligible for developmental kindergarten, children must turn five years old between July 1 and December 1. Students will be enrolled in developmental kindergarten for the first year, and then will be placed in a full-day kindergarten class the second year.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in the Developmental Kindergarten classroom please contact us at the Capac Elementary School office at  810-395-3636, we will return your call as soon as possible.
