Welcome to another great school year at Capac Middle School! Open house at the middle school is on September 2 from 4:30-5:30. At this time, students will receive their schedules, lockers, locker combinations, and have the opportunity to meet teachers. The staff and I are thrilled to share another year of learning together with all of our wonderful students. The focus for this school year is to exceed our past years’ accomplishments in all academic subjects. This goal can be achieved only with your continued support. We value your input and look forward to a quality school-home working relationship in order to build on our successes. We hope you are able to visit us often and look forward to offering opportunities for you to be involved in our school.
We will continue with our PBIS (Positive Behavior and Intervention Support) program which aims to prevent inappropriate behavior through teaching and reinforcing appropriate behaviors. As we know, there are many issues that may present themselves to our children in everyday living. We, as parents and educators, work to protect our children and students, but we must also teach them how to successfully approach stressful situations when they are present at school, home or a social situation. We are the role models for our students and leading by example and supporting the students is essential. We encourage you to support our efforts through PBIS. With everyone’s support, our students will be able to continue to grow in an environment that encourages learning and academic growth.
Our students will continue with the Michigan Student Test of Education Progress (M-STEP) this school year in the spring semester. In addition to the M-STEP, Capac Middle School is continuing the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) tests from the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). MAP tests, which are computer based, will determine your child’s instructional level and measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Math, Science, and English. MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. With MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth. MAP testing will begin in early September. Students will be tested again in the winter and in the spring. After testing, you will receive information on your child’s results.
We will be working hard at keeping you informed of what is happening at Capac Middle School through our school website, teacher websites, and through our newsletter. We want to partner with you in your student’s educational development. Strong parent-school communication strengthens student achievement and we are committed to keeping you informed.
Our teachers will work with your children to provide equitable learning and social opportunities and to develop a positive attitude towards school. We want to partner with you in their educational development. We welcome your ideas and want you to feel free to contact us with questions or concerns.
In closing, we want our students to have pride and a sense of belonging for their school. Coming to school every day with a positive attitude, an open mind, and a willingness to learn are vital to student success. We want our students to feel safe, loved, and nurtured when they come into the building. We want you and your child to view Capac Middle School as a special place.
