Common Core State Standards:

In Grade 6, instructional time should focus on these critical areas:

(1) Applying and extending previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions;

(2) Applying and extending previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers;

(3) Understanding ratio concepts and using ratio reasoning to solve problems;

(4) Applying and extending previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions;

(5) Reasoning about and solving one-variable equations and inequalities; and

(6) Representing and analyzing quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables.

In Grade 7, instructional time should focus on these critical areas:

(1) Applying and extending previous understanding of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply and divide rational numbers;

(2) Analyzing proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems;

(3) Using properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions; and

(4) solving real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
