Our Therapy Dog, Focus

Focus

Focus is a beautiful 4 year old Golden Retriever owned by one of our second grade teacher's, Mrs. Allen. She came to live with the Allen family at 10 weeks and she started obedience training with Mrs. Allen's son, Hayden through 4-H when she was 4 months old. She was his 4-H dog for three years so she has had 3 years of obedience practice.

She has also competed in 4-H agility, and showmanship as well as a few AKC conformation shows.

Focus earned her Canine Good Citizenship certificate at the age of 2. Again, Hayden took her into the ring to be tested at the St. Clair Kennel Club dog show held at the Goodell's Fairgrounds each September.

She proved to be not only smart and beautiful but also a healthy dog. She has been x-rayed for hip and elbow dysplasia at Michigan State University and also has had her heart and eyes checked for diseases that affect golden retrievers. She is clear of any of these health issues. Because of all these qualities along with a wonderful temperament, she was bred twice to another healthy golden retriever - producing 11 puppies in her first litter and 3 in her second.

A son from the second litter is handicapped and is being fitted for a prosthetic leg! More info to come soon -we're waiting to hear from his new family.

This fall Focus was observed to have the training that is desirable to become a Therapy Dog and has been registered with Therapy Dog Incorporated. This title allows her to visit schools as well as other facilities that welcome animal assisted therapy.
